They sold their old house with hot tubs, walk-in closets, a private pool, a basketball court and double-bed bedrooms to the government because their Dad, a retired golf player who had an accident, needed to go to school and start a new career. Their Dad, Mark Christopher, used to be a amazing golf player. Apparently, many people in the States know about him. When Callie, Savvy's sister, was five, their Dad was fixing a broken satellite on top of their house when Callie climbed up to the roof. When Savvy's Dad saw Callie, he was so shocked, and then he slid on a screwdriver and tumbled down the building, breaking bones in his back and neck. After the accident, he had to do a surgery. Now, he isn't supposed to lift anything heavier than a bag of groceries. The family moved to Savvy's Aunt Betty's farm, Savvy's Dad's sister. She has a dirty barn, and a lot of sheep. When coyotes come at night, their dog would fight or scare them off. Sometimes. Aunt Betty might go out with her shotgun and gun the coyotes by herself.Once Savvy moved to Rhode Island, she met Nina "Gonzo" Gonzalez at the elite 16U basketball team tryouts. After they finished the tryouts, they decided to join the elite 18U basketball team, Fire, despite being only fourteen. In the end, they made the team.A few nights later, coyotes came at night. This time, Aunt Betty herself went out with her shotgun, but returned with a broken ankle. Savvy's parents took her to the hospital, with negative results. As time passes, more bad effects come, but eventually Betty returns home after a few months with a cast.Savvy's team, Fire, wins many basketball tournaments. They have excellent teamwork, if they are desperate to win, their coach, Fitz, places Savvy in forward position. Usually, she is placed in middle but more likely she is on the bench. The rest of the team, Gonzo, Lori, Bailey, Ava, Olivia, Molly, Natalia (Known as "Bubble") had to feed the balls to Savvy because Savvy is the best shooter on their team. Her best shots are on the right corner, or on the free throw line. She is six four, and a great shooter and blocker.Soon, they play against a Newport team, Power. The coach is
Jennifer Kronos, who was one of Fitz's students during high school. Fitz hates her a lot because of something that happened during their time when Kronos was in high school. Apparently, Kronos begged Fitz to boost her game because they were competing in the state championship on the next week. Fitz kept refusing, but later, he asked Kronos to get him his water battle in his office. Never, in four years, had Fitz asked Kronos for a errand or favour. When she went into his office, she saw that his top cupboard was unlocked. She knew that Fitz never left his cupboards unlocked, and she saw a envelope inside. She didn't even have to open it to see that there were pills inside. Kronos kept begging Fitz to boost her game. Now he did, but not directly. She had a choice, to take it or not. They were amphetamines, and Kronos took them a few times. For many years, Kronos kept telling everyone the same story with a few lies. Fitz also hates Kronos for that.To get to the national tournament in Orlando, the only way a team could compete in it was to win a regional qualifier. The first qualifier in New England was held in Warwick. Fire beat many teams easily, but in the middle of the qualifier, Lori's Mom spotted Steroid pills in Savvy's bag. During Fire's playing time, Lori's Mom contacted the police and they cut open the lock and searched Savvy's gym bag. The detective accuses Savvy for taking steroid pills, which are illegal. Apparently, Savvy didn't take the pills. After a many tests in the hospital, including urine test and a blood test, they finally saw that Savvy was clean. Then, they accused Marc, which was Callie's boyfriend, for putting the pills in Savvy's bag because Marc once told her that all he wanted was to get to a D1 scholarship, so they think Marc framed her because Savvy caught Marc a few times in Callie and Savvy's bedroom. Marc's parents took him to the hospital and took blood test, and he came out clean, too. Because the detective still thinks Savvy is the culprit, Savvy isn't allowed to play any tournaments until they find the real culprit or any real proof that Savvy is doing it. After many days, they finally find out that it is Callie that put the pills in Savvy's gym bag. Alyssa, Callie's best friend convinced Callie to do it.Since Savvy isn't the pill consumer, she is allowed to play in tournaments now. Team Fire takes their last change at the last New England Regional Qualifier, and they beat Newport Team Power in the semifinals. But, they lose in the finals. Too exhausted to care that they lost a trip to the national tournament in Orlando, they celebrate their survival to the finals.
